First Humanities session.
During the first Humanities session, as a group of trainee teachers we were asked to look at specific objects and identify their possible uses in the classroom.
These objects could be used in a History lesson. Children could try and discover what the objects are, what they would have been used for, and compare them to modern toys and objects used today.
For example KS1 children could be asked : How are our toys different from those in the past? KS2 children: Identify the objects, and discuss how they could have been used in the past. |
Bee bots can be used cross curricular in many subjects, including Geography. Pupils could program the bee bot to travel from the volcano to the bridge for example. This will help them familiarise themselves with specific vocabulary, whilst at the same time communicating with peers.
Pupils could use maps of the local area around school and go from one specific co-ordinate to another. ICT could be brought in with the use of compasses on an iphone or electronic device.
Although some children may find documents boring to look at, using documents like the above could be incorporated in History and Literacy lessons. For example, children could research the working conditions for young children in Victorian times. They could create diaries of the children's lives based on real accounts from the Victorian children themselves.
